Relocating to Alexandria

Alexandria OH Homes for Sale & Real EstateConsidering a move to central Ohio? How about Alexandria? This small village in Licking County is home to just around 650 residents. 75% of them own their own homes. Not to be confused with New Alexandria, which is several hours away from downtown Columbus just outside of Pittsburgh. This quieter town is about 22 miles northeast of downtown Columbus easily accessible along Highway 161 or Highway 16. The small village has a rich history including citizens who played a crucial role in the Underground Railroad, sheltering many escaped slaves on their way to freedom.

This picturesque village in St. Albans Township was founded back in 1830 by Alexandria DeVilbis and home to the highly-rated Northridge school district. This vibrant community has an award-winning fire department, dedicated city council members, and a great group of Township trustees ensuring the safety and quality of life for all the citizens.

Why Alexandria?

Alexandria, while small, has its own little charm. Alexandria Fun Days is a fun annual event each year in July with the community parade, arts and crafts, food, music, and just a great way to get a sense of the area and the folks that live here.

The cost of living is quite low. The median income is about $78,000 with the median home value between $160,000 and $240,000. It sits right along Highway 37, which runs north and south to the center of town. It has a few neighborhood parks, a public library, a few restaurants, and services in downtown, however, most of Alexandria is residential. You're likely to find homes dating back 50 to 60 years as well as a few new construction homes on the outskirts of Alexandria.

Kings Pond is located along Beachwood Drive in downtown and Parker Community Park features green space and a baseball field. Firemen's Park, Lobdell Reserve, and the Alexandria Museum on Main Street are all small points of interest.

"Grandparents were born, raised and laid here. Parents were born and raised here. I have been born and raised here and plan on continuing here." - Niche.com

The primary reason folks choose Alexandria is that it's far enough away from downtown Columbus to feel like you are out in the country yet you're no more than about 30 or 40 minutes from downtown and major events, city life, services and entertainment. The majority of grocery stores are found in the closest area of Johnstown, a few miles away but the Lanndale Farmers Market just outside of Alexandria is always a popular spot for fresh produce and local goods.

Alexandria Schools

Alexandria is part of the Northridge local school system, one of the highest-rated school systems in this area. Residents attend Alexandria elementary, Northridge primary, Northridge intermediate, Northridge middle school, and Northridge high school.
